About

Hi, I am Nicolas Aguilar

Being born in Bogota, Colombia, and raised in North Carolina, I have always found myself at an intersection of identity and culture. As a child, I was influenced and moved by the music around me. My first musical influences included Spanish ballads that my father liked and salsa songs that my mother had on burned CDs. Not only did I have a sonically Colombian atmosphere but also a South Eastern soundscape of American Hip-Hop, R&B, and hints of Country and Folk.

The radio ruled supreme in my childhood. Today, my musical tastes and likes range from video game soundtracks to 90s country music. I can’t say that I like everything because let’s be honest not many people actually do. Sadly I don’t play any instruments but I like to approach music as if I was musically trained.

I am an amateur photographer. My journey in photography started when I was gifted a point-and-shoot camera by a coworker in 2017. I used that camera to photograph my travels in Germany during a study abroad in Berlin. Later on in my last year of undergraduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill, I enrolled in an Intro to Photography course. With my new skills and understanding of digital art, I decided to buy a crop sensor camera, specifically, a Sony A6000. After three years of using my A6000, I decided to sell it in order to buy a full-frame camera. I purchased a Sony A7ii with a lens kit that’s been servicing me well. My A7ii is bulkier than the A6000 but I feel it has more potential in terms of printing my shots.
